Description

Supatile Lightweight Metal Roof Barge Trim - 900mm - Charcoal Grey

The Supatile Barge Board finishes the sloping gable edges of the roof, known as the verge. It does two jobs at once: it gives the edge of the roof a clean, finished line, and it forms a watercourse beneath the tile sheets that channels rainwater away from the gable. Each board is 900mm long and is the first part of the system to go on, framing the roof ready for the tile sheets to be laid into place. It suits sheds, garages, garden offices, summerhouses, stables and other small buildings.

It is made from the same high grade steel as the rest of the Supatile system, primed with a water-based acrylic, coated with Aluzinc (55% aluminium, 45% zinc) and bonded with charcoal stone granules. The finish matches the tile sheets, ridges and end caps exactly, so the whole roof reads as one.

Supatile barge boards simply overlap, so there is no cutting and no wastage. Fix the boards to all sides of the roof first, aligning with the existing roof boarding at the eaves and flush at the ridge, then overlap each board over the next by a minimum of 25mm to run any length. Fix using Supatile screw and washer fixings, using three fixings per board including the overlaps. Fixings are available in bags of 10.

Supatile roof sheet FAQs

How many barge boards do I need?
Measure each sloping gable edge of your roof in metres. A standard gable roof has four of these edges, two on each end. For each edge, divide the length by 0.875 to allow for the 25mm overlap, then round up. For example, a 2.6 metre verge needs three boards (2.6 divided by 0.875 is 2.97, rounded up to 3). Add up the boards for every edge to get your total.

What is a barge board and what does it do?
The barge board, also called a barge trim or verge trim, runs down the sloping edge at each gable. It gives the roof a neat finished edge and creates a watercourse underneath the tile sheets that carries rainwater away from the verge.

How is it fitted?
Fix the barge boards to all sides of the roof first. Align them with the existing roof boarding at the eaves and flush at the ridge, then overlap each board over the next by at least 25mm. Use three screw and washer fixings per board, including the overlaps.

Do I fit barge boards before the tile sheets?
Yes. The barge boards go on first so the tile sheets can be laid into them, with the boards forming the watercourse beneath the tiles.
